An FIBC inner liner provides a separate film layer between the packed product and the woven outer bag. Depending on the film structure and closure design, a liner can support containment and protection against moisture, oxygen or product leakage. Required performance must be defined for the actual product and supply chain.
Common formats include loose tubular liners, form-fit liners and shaped liners with filling or discharge necks. They may be inserted loose, tabbed, glued or sewn into the outer FIBC. The attachment method must prevent unwanted movement without interfering with filling, discharge or lifting.
Selecting the Liner Construction
Selection begins with the product: particle size, flow behaviour, moisture sensitivity, oxygen sensitivity, filling temperature and regulatory requirements. The filling and discharge equipment then determine liner dimensions, neck geometry, closure and attachment method.
Film thickness alone does not define barrier performance. Resin type, multilayer structure, seals, closures and handling conditions all influence the result. Where food contact is required, every relevant material and component must have suitable supporting documentation for the intended conditions of use.
Electrostatic and Safety Considerations
A standard polyethylene liner can affect the electrostatic behaviour of the complete FIBC system. In potentially explosive atmospheres, the outer bag, liner, labels and document pockets must be assessed as a tested combination for the intended environment.
IEC 61340-4-4:2018 covers electrostatic classification and test methods for FIBCs and their inner liners. A liner must never be assumed to make a bag conductive, dissipative or safe for a hazardous atmosphere without the appropriate risk assessment, testing, classification and instructions for use.
Custom Production and International Orders
Film type, thickness, dimensions, shape, attachment and closures are customized to the approved FIBC and packed-product specification. Minimum order quantity varies by liner type. Production lead time and container-loading options depend on the product, order quantity and delivery plan.
